About Julian
I was born in London in 1976 & have been a freelance illustrator since the late '90's. Big loves and influences include the Franco-Belgian ('ligne claire') comic style, British sci-fi and war comics of the 70s and 80s, Manga and lots of American magazine and movie poster art from the 1950s and 60s, especially that of Robert McGinnis. My life long ambition of being a professional comic book artist was successfully avoided until recently, thanks in the main to an accidental career as a storyboard & concept artist for various London-based production companies.
Most of the storyboarding was for music videos and TV commercials promoting all kinds of products and people from the likes of Rimmel, L’Oreal, Max Factor and Maybelline, to Guiness, Coca-Cola and Kelloggs, to artists like Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Nathalie Imbruglia and the late George Micheal. Over the past 15/20 years I've worked on many of the aforementioned projects with Director Jake Nava and Producer Ben Cooper of Cherry. In among all that I worked on magazines, as an illustrator at the BBC and a comic book artist.
